Joe Bauer received a Master of Music in String Performance from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music in Double Bass Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Albert Laszlo and Curtis Burris, respectfully. He is a tenured member of Quad City Symphony Orchestra, a former Lecturer at Southern Illinois University, and a past Fellow with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. 

Joe leads an eclectic musical career, having collaborated with distinguished conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Riccardo Muti, and Jaap van Zweden. He has performed with acclaimed ensembles and artists including Third Coast Percussion, Time for Three, Yo-Yo Ma, Emmanuel Ax, the rock band My Morning Jacket, and rapper Vic Mensa.

A dedicated advocate of new music, Joe has premiered works by composers including Michael Abels, Angel Lam, Chris Walczak, and Liliya Ugay and has worked with ensembles such as Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra and the International Contemporary Ensemble.

As an educator, Joe has experience teaching students of all ages and skill levels from young beginners to advanced graduate students. His students have been accepted into leading music programs, including the Berklee College of Music. His teaching philosophy centers on building a strong technical foundation that enables expressive and nuanced sound production. He emphasizes the physical mechanics of string playing, posture, bow control, and left-hand technique, guiding students to develop both control and musical freedom. Committed to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, Joe prioritizes trust, respect, and open communication in his studio. He encourages students to take creative risks, helping them grow not only as musicians but as confident, creative individuals.
