Bing Jing Yu – Violin / Viola
Bing Jing Yu received her Artist Diploma from New England Conservatory. She performs with the Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra. There, she has served as Acting Concertmaster and Acting Assistant Concertmaster for various productions.
Her Carnegie Hall debut came in 1992. She performed the Bach Double Concerto with the New York String Orchestra under the late Alexander Schneider. In addition, Bing Jing Yu has completed Suzuki Unit 4 training.
As a teacher, she believes in setting students up for success. Her approach meets students at their current level while encouraging them to grow. She teaches students of all ages and abilities. Her experience ranges from young pre-Twinklers to advanced violinists.
Bing Jing Yu also coaches violinists preparing orchestra audition excerpts. She brings extensive performance experience to her teaching. Her chamber music experience includes performances with Richard Stoltzman, John Gibbons, and Lawrence Lesser. She is also an experienced chamber music coach.
In addition to the Lyric Opera Orchestra, she performs with the Grant Park Orchestra. She also plays with the Joffrey Ballet. With the Joffrey Ballet, she has served as Acting Assistant Concertmaster.
Throughout her career, Bing Jing Yu has held several leadership positions. She served as Concertmaster for the New World Symphony and the Gardner Museum Chamber Orchestra. She was also Associate Concertmaster of the Boston Philharmonic.
Her chamber music experience includes membership in the Samson Trio. The ensemble was featured on WGBH’s Classics in the Morning. She was also a member of the International Trio. The group recorded works by Ami Mayyanl, released by IMP.
The International Trio toured Israel and performed Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the Tel-Aviv Campus Symphony Orchestra. Her musical training includes studies with Roman Totenberg and Masuko Ushioda.
Bing Jing Yu has also worked with many distinguished chamber musicians. Her coaches have included Isidore Cohen, Felix Galimir, Leon Kirchner, Gilbert Kalish, Eugene Lehner, Arnold Steinhardt, Jaime Laredo, and Lorand Fenyves.
With her extensive performance and teaching background, Bing Jing Yu brings a wealth of experience to her violin students. Her goal is to help each student build confidence, develop strong technique, and enjoy making music.
