The
Preparatory Program at AMI is designed for the beginning level student, ages 5 – 10 years old. Students involved in the Preparatory Program are required to take one-hour weekly private lessons and two core classes (Music Theory and Group Instruction).
The Preparatory Program is constructed to jump-start the progress of beginning students, in order to provide them with the very best music education possible and help them reach their highest potential later in their music education and music performance endeavors. Students are required to pass all five levels of the Preparatory Program before being admitted into the Conservatory Program; to pass each level, students must perform in front of a jury and are required to participate in a minimum of three school performances.
There is not an audition for admission into the Preparatory Program; however, students and parents are required to attend an orientation with the Preparatory Program Director before enrolling in the program. The orientation will review the requirements of the program, as well as give students and parents the chance to ask any questions they have regarding the program.
Enrollment into the Preparatory Program occurs twice a year, in August and in January. Students will begin their one-hour weekly private lesson immediately upon registration. The two core classes of the program – Music Theory and Group Instruction – begin after the first 4 (four) private lessons after the student is enrolled.
Students are required to pass juries before being admitted to the next level of the program. Juries will be administered on the advice of the private lesson teacher. Juries are composed of the Preparatory Program Director, an Executive Director, and a faculty member from the students instrument/area of study (the private lesson teacher is not part of this jury).
