Toddler Tunes
Toddler Tunes is designed for children ages 1 ½– 3 years. This fun class encourages parents to participate, to make learning music both an educational and relationship enriching experience. Toddlers learn the fundamentals of music through pitch, sound and rhythm exercises. Spatial and cognitive development enriching games are used as a way to precursor a complete education. Children are exposed to numerous instruments, and use the keyboard as a way to create music of their own!
Music-ssori
Designed for children ages 4-6 yrs old, this comprehensive music class introduces children to music on an educational level — while still making music fun! Students use singing and basic piano skills to develop musical and cognitive learning aptitude. Absent of parent involvement, Music-ssori allows children to work independently, while maintaining teamwork emphasis with their fellow classmates.
Students use color, movement and sound awareness to aid in the development of musical skills & pattern relationships. Within the class, students will begin learning fundamental musical notation including the following: recognition of treble & bass clef, primer treble clef notation, and basic pitch relationship.
These objectives are achieved through the following methods:
- Imploring a consistent song that the students sing at the beginning of every class
- Games that relay core musical concepts such as rhythmic patterns, tonal relationship, and musical notation
- Encouraging children to help one another in activities and projects
- Introducing classical music through listening to recordings
- Identifying the sounds/timbre of various instruments through direct exposure and listening exercises
Music-ssori is based on an 8-week session cycle; it is encouraged that students remain in the same class for a minimum of two (2) sessions to develop a sense of belonging within a particular group of children. Music-ssori is a great class to prepare young students for private lessons on an instrument, or as a pre-cursor to “My First Instrument” class.
My First Instrument
My First Instrument is designed to prepare students before entering into the private lesson program on any instrument. It is recommended (although not required) that younger students take one semester of Music-ssori before entering into the My First Instrument class.
My First Instrument exposes students to the foundations of learning music through classroom level note reading, rhythm comprehension, and tonal pitch relationship. Students focus on learning the recorder as a means to learn reading treble clef, incorporating rhythm into musical expression, and understanding basic concepts of phrasing.
Additionally, students are exposed to various instruments including the piano, violin, cello, voice, wind, and brass — with the purpose of allowing children to make an informed decision concerning the instrument they will eventually commit to playing.
Students will learn simple songs on the recorder, and play them with their classmates to make learning fun and socially stimulating. The core objectives of the class are as follows:
- Exposure to basic classroom notation including rhythm & tonal notation
- Creating a fun learning environment where students learn songs on the recorder, thus immediately applying their musical knowledge to an instrument
- Preparing students to continue on an instrument such as the piano, violin, cello, flute, voice, etc.
- Introduction to various instruments through in-class observation & at-home listening exercises
